Herbert Quandt Scholarship 2011

Herbert Quandt Foundation is offering six scholarships to young journalists from Israel/Palestine for its ‘Trialogue of Cultures’ programme for 2011. The scholarship’s focus is on the exchange of young German, Israeli and Palestinian journalists who share the interest in a trilateral dialogue, who want to know more about Germany and also want to get work experience in a German media context.

I'lam Media Center, as a partner in this programme, will assist in selecting two young Palestinian citizens of Israel to partake in this six person scholarship programme.

Details and Timeframe of Scholarship:
1) The scholarship in Germany will start 1 July 2011 and end 31 December 2011.

2) On 1 July, a three month intensive German language course including excursions will start at the University of Bayreuth. We expect a high commitment to learn the German language.

3) From October until December, a three-months-internship will be organised at a German media company such as Deutsche Welle Arabic and English Programme (Radio and TV), Frankfurter Rundschau, DIE WELT, dpa, Deutschland Magazine, Al Jazeera etc. The Herbert Quandt-Foundation team will visit the fellows during this time. The work load is five days/40 hours a week. No holidays are included in this programme as this is a professional further education.

Candidate Requirements:
§      at least a B.A.-university degree

§      strong political, social, cultural and religious expertise

§      interest in an inter-cultural trialogue between Jews, Christians and Muslims, as well as Germans, Israeli and Palestinians

§      a minimum of three years work-experience in media before and after graduation

§      high journalistic qualities

§      high professional work ethics

§      an age between 25 and 35 years

§      clear interest in Germany and German media

§      good language skills, at least in English, German would be advantageous

§      a letter of reference from an academic or journalistic institution

§      two written pieces of journalistic work (newspaper-articles, texts of internet-publications or transcripts of radio-features etc.)

§      carefully filled-out application-forms and a CV

Financial Support Details:
The candidate will be supported by a monthly stipend, living and travel costs:

§      The Herbert Quandt-Foundation will take over the costs for the course as well as the accommodation-costs at the University of Bayreuth (June-September 2011).

§      A fixed amount of € 800.- to cover a return flight – to be disbursed on 31 May 2011

§      € 700.- for living costs, to be disbursed in monthly dues

§      Rent for an apartment during the internship up to an amount of € 400,- per month (evidence required).

§      The internships will be organised by the foundation taking into consideration the personal preferences.

§      Furthermore, the foundation will organise at least one workshop in the fields of politics, media, religion and cultures.

Deadline:
Deadline for the application is 15 of January 2011. Personal interviews will be held in early February in Israel/Palestine by the programme director of the Herbert Quandt-Foundation. Results will be forwarded as soon as possible.
