Ilam strongly condemns the closing down of Al-Jazeera’s operations in the West Bank by the Palestinian Authority (PA) on July 15 2009.
The decision is a political one and one that severely violates the right to freedom of expression and freedom of the press. I’lam Media Center demands that the PA decision be rescinded and that al-Jazeera be allowed to resume normal operations immediately; it also calls upon the PA to take necessary measures to ensure that media freedoms are protected and promoted under their jurisdiction.
