From December 7-13 2009, Danish NGO, Crossing Borders, in coalition with the Egyptian NGO, Moltaka, is organising a seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark, as part of the larger initiative, UP TO YOU: CORRECTING MEDIA IMAGES OF WOMEN.
I’lam has cooperated in this initiative by putting forward Samira Haj Yahya from Radio al-Shams as the Palestinian participant.
The seminar is to provide the participants with training of trainers and networking skills for dialogue with Danish media and civil society organisations. In order to give the participants the best opportunities for establishing contacts, dialogue and networking, the timing of the seminar is organised to take place in conjunction with UN Climate Summit COP15 in Copenhagen. This is a unique opportunity to visit various places of action, where the global civil society will express themselves about climate change. Focus will be on women and the media – in a climate context.
The participants include 5 journalists – Ms. Suaad Abdullah Al-Salahi, Mr. Ahmed Mostafa, Mr. Said Darwish (Yemen) and Ms. Viola Fahmy Guirguis (Egypt) and Ms. Samira Haj Yahya (Palestine).
Following this seminar in Denmark, will be a 7-day follow up seminar and public event in Egypt and the development and publication of an online booklet: detecting and correcting media gender biases.
