Herbert Quandt is offering six scholarships to young journalists from Israel/Palestine for its ‘Trialogue of Cultures’ programme for 2010. The scholarship’s focus is on the exchange of young German, Israeli and Palestinian journalists who share the interest in a trilateral dialogue, who want to know more about Germany and also want to get work experience in a German media context.
Three scholarships will be awarded to journalists with Israeli and three to journalists with Palestinian background.
Details and Timeframe of Scholarship: The scholarship in Germany will start on 1 July 2010 and end 31 December 2010 (including a fare-well meeting). On 1st of July, a three month intensive German language course including cultural excursions starts at the University of Bayreuth in Germany.
From October until December 2010, a three-months-internship will be organised at a German media company such as Deutsche Welle Arabic and English Programme (Radio and TV), ZDF, Frankfurter Rundschau, Deutschland Magazine, Al Jazeera etc. The Herbert Quandt-Foundation team will visit the fellows during this time. The work load is five days/40 hours a week.
Candidate Requirements: I’lam Media Center for Arab Palestinians in Israel is currently accepting applications from young Palestinian journalists in Israel. We expect: - at least a B.A.-university degree - strong political, social and/or religious expertise - interest in an inter-cultural trialogue between Jews, Christians and Muslims, Germans, Israeli and Palestinians - a minimum of three years work-experience in media before and after graduation - high journalistic qualities - high professional work ethics - an age between 25 and 35 years - interest in Germany and German media - good language skills, at least in English, German would be advantageous - a letter of reference from an academic or journalistic institution - two written pieces of journalistic work (newspaper-articles or transcripts of radio-features etc.) - carefully filled-out application-forms and a CV
Financial Support Details: Further, the candidate will be supported by a monthly stipend, living and travel costs: - A fixed amount of € 800.- (incl. excess luggage) to cover a return flight – to be disbursed on 31 May 2010 - € 700.- for living costs, to be disbursed in monthly dues - Rent for an apartment during the internship up to an amount of € 400,- per month (evidence required). - The Herbert Quandt-Foundation will take over the costs for the course as well as the accommodation-costs at the University of Bayreuth (June-September 2010). - The internships will be organised by the foundation taking into consideration the personal preferences. - Furthermore, the foundation will organise a workshop in the fields of politics, media, religion and cultures at the end of the year

Deadline: The deadline for applications is January 10 2010. Personal interviews will be held in early February 2010 in Israel/Palestine by the programme director of the Herbert Quandt-Foundation.
