In keeping with present efforts at strengthening the local Arabic press and encouraging the practice of investigative journalism, I'lam is happy to announce the launch of the 'Investigative Journalism Award' for local Arab journalists.
I'lam is currently soliciting submissions of articles/reports by local Arab journalists that are reflective of 'investigative journalism'. Submissions will be accepted until October 31 2010, 8pm. No applications will be accepted after this time. Adjudication by a committee of three journalism/literary professionals will take place in November. The award will be granted at a Study Day on December 10 2010, 'Human Rights Day' to symbolise how freedom of expression and freedom of the press in conducting investigative reporting are cornerstones of the international human rights corpus.
Details of the Investigative Article/Report and Candidate Requirements: - That the journalist works in the local Arabic media - written/audio/video. - That the material be written in Arabic. - The material was prepared in 2010. - The investigation should deal with a political/social/humanitarian issue dealing with Arab Palestinians (on either side of the Green Line). - That the report be prepared by the journalist alone.
Details on Submission: -The material may have been published/unpublished. -The material should be submitted in double-space, Font type 'Arabic Transparent', Size 12. -The material may only be submitted to Samah Bsoul, Arabic Media Coordinator.
