On February 18 2011, I'lam awarded its 'Investigative Journalism Award' to three journalists, Inas Mreih, Rozeen 'Odeh and Saja Kilani for their respective reports on the gun trade, on early marriage, and discrimination against black community members, all as manifested in Arab Palestinian society in Israel. The award was launched in mid-2010 in keeping with present efforts at strengthening the local Arabic press and encouraging the practice of investigative journalism. Among other investigative pieces were those related to the October 2000 martyrs, local Palestinian students who receive post-secondary education in Jordan, and local contributions to global warming. In total, there were six contenders for the two prizes.
