The Advocacy department at I'lam, directed by Advocate 'Alaa Abdallah, put forward a letter to the Government Press Office (GPO) underscoring the legal obligation of this public authority to adequate representation for Arab journalists.
Among the issues addressed in the letter were details on the present procedures by which press cards are issued, and information on the composition of the new committee that is revising existing procedures.
Although the Government Press Office had invited some journalists to participate in the commission, it did not take into account adequate representation of the Arab Palestinian minority on this commission. Adequate representation in this public body's commission is imporant, and a legal obligation, as a means of taking into account the particular situation of the Arab community and their position in the media sphere.
