I’lam has kicked off its Cultural Series Symposium, with the opening session themed 'Revolutions in the Arab World' on June 28 2011.
This was the first in a series of monthly seminars, which will focus on issues that are presently being addressed in the media. The first symposium will cover “revolutions of the Arab world and the challenges of democratic transition.” Several themes will be discussed including: the causes of revolutions of the Arab world; Arab regimes dependence on logic and security and disregard for safety; the wave of revolutions and democratization; projections of the revolution on both the Arab and international world; the Israeli position on the revolutions of the Arab world; foreign intervention in Arab revolutions; differences between treason and change.
Participants in the opening session were:
• Dr. Najah Abu Bakr - a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council.
• Dr. Jamal Zahalka - MK and Head of the Balad/Tajamoa party.
• Dr. Thaer Abu Saleh - an expert in international relations - the occupied Golan.
• Atta Nasser - Journalist and Producer, responsible for the Middle East file on ABC.
The dialogue was held with Dr. Amal Jamal, a lecturer in political science and director of I’lam.
