Within the structure of I'lam’s investigative journalism course, 'Madmoun Jadeed'/'New Content', run in partnership with media NGOs, AmmanNet and Ramallah-based Amin, and under the supervision of journalist Bassam Antari of Jordan, Rozeen ‘Odeh, wrote an investigative journalistic piece concerning Palestinian Bedouin exposed to poisonous gas in the Naqab.

The article discusses the situation in the Naqab in which many Bedouins in both recognized and unrecognized villages are exposed to toxic gas that is dangerous both for the environment and one’s health.  The situation is so bad that one Israeli expert warned that the industrial zone of Ramat Hovav south of the city of Be’er Sheva could become a disaster similar to the one at Chernobyl in the Ukraine in 1986.  The ministry also reports death and cancer rates are 65% higher in the area compared to other parts of Israel, with high rates of both birth defects and miscarriages among the inhabitants.  The article goes into more depth concerning the troubling situation facing many Bedouins in the Negev.

The article is available in Arabic.
