The Cinema Club Airs in Umm al-Fahm, Nazareth, I'bilin - February 2012
In cooperation with Ramallah-based NGO “Shashat", I'lam hosted two screenings in Um Al-Fahm on February 6 2012 for the Democratic Women's Club. “Paradise”, a movie by the Iranian director Ahang Bashi, deals with Bashi's grandmother's immigration to Sweden and the language difficulties she faced in her retirement home. This was followed by “The Brother and Sister", a movie by Omaima Hamoury. Following screening of the films, participants held a discussion on the themes of aging, estrangement from wide society, the differences between a boy's and girl's education in the Palestinian society in Israel.

I’lam was hosted by “al-Attid” school in Um Al-Fahm on February 12 2012. The film screening was part of a wider workshop, which we held with feminist NGO 'Al-Siwar'. The theme was 'Women Affairs and the Media'. The workshop began with a presentation and discussion around the conclusion of I'lam's research on 'Women's Representation in the Arab Commercial Newspapers' published in 2011. The second-half of the meeting was dedicated to the film screening of "Golden Pomegranate Seeds' by Director Ghada Terawi, and produced by Ramallah-based NGO “Shashat”. The movie dealt with the theme of sexual harassment and following the film screening, the participants engaged in a discussion around the sensitive issue.
On February 13 2012 I'lam screened 'Bed and Breakfast', a 2007 I'lam production directed by Juna Suleiman to the Youth Club of the Balad/al-Tajmoaa Democratic Party. The movie tells the story of Nazareth's market and the resident's social problems, in major part through the eyes of children from the 'souq'. It was a fantastic opportunity for the youth club to watch experiences similar to theirs on screen and debate the issues.
