I’lam, the media center for the Palestinian citizens of Israel, has concluded the “Human Rights Documentation” course. The five months long course brought together a group of journalists, media students and civil society activists for the purpose of acquiring the needed skills for professional documentation of human rights issues.

The course consisted of 12 lectures addressing the issue of human rights and citizenship from a variety of spectrums; such as legal, socioeconomic and philosophical. The lectures were given by a group of the finest jurists and specialists in the field of human rights. In addition to the theoretical lectures, the participants were engaged in a number of photography workshops aiming to add this skill to the documentation methods at their disposal.
During the course the participants wrote articles about human rights violations of the Palestinian community inside Israel, the articles were published in the website of I’lam. In order to put the photography skills into practice, the group will participate in a tour to Jerusalem, to document human rights violations in the city. The work of the students will be exhibited in a virtual photos gallery that will be set in I’lam’s website and in the various venues of social media.
In the last session of the course that took place in October 14, 2012, the director of I’lam Dr. Amal Jamal and the project coordinator Samah Bsoul congratulated the participants and awarded them certifications of completion.
This course is a part of the “Human Rights Sensitive Media” project. It included 72 academic hours and was conducted in the cities Sakhnen and Baka Al-Gharbiyi. The course was held in two locations in order to reach the highest number journalists and human rights activists possible.
